GAS PROTECTION SYSTEMS
EXPERT GAS MEMBRANE INSTALLATIONS
We install high-quality gas protection membranes from all leading manufacturers. Our team is experienced in all approved jointing methods, including hot-air welding and the use of specialist sealing tapes, ensuring a fully compliant and effective gas barrier installation.
The right protection for your site
The selection of the appropriate gas membrane is determined by the findings of the Ground Investigation Report or Remediation Strategy. These reports identify the presence and concentration of ground gases such as methane (CH₄), carbon dioxide (CO₂) and radon, along with factors such as gas flow rates and ground conditions.
Using this information, the site’s Characteristic Situation (CS) rating can be established, typically ranging from CS1 to CS6 in accordance with current guidance. The higher the gas risk, the greater the level of protection required.
Specifying your membrane
Once the CS rating has been determined, a suitable gas membrane and, where necessary, associated gas protection measures can be specified to achieve the required level of protection for the development. Factors considered when selecting a membrane include:
- Gas resistance and permeability performance
- Required protection score for the site
- Compatibility with the proposed building design
- Installation requirements and detailing
- Manufacturer certification and testing standards

Independent validation & verification
To provide clients, developers, consultants and warranty providers with confidence that gas protection measures have been installed correctly, we can arrange independent third-party validation of membrane installations in accordance with current industry guidance, including CIRIA C735 – Good Practice on the Testing and Verification of Protection Systems for Buildings Against Hazardous Ground Gases.
Third-party validation provides an independent assessment of the gas protection system, ensuring that the installation has been completed in accordance with the design specification, manufacturer requirements and relevant industry standards. The validation process typically includes a review of installation details, inspection of membrane integrity, assessment of service penetrations and construction joints, together with the verification of any associated gas protection measures.
Working alongside experienced and suitably qualified independent validators, we coordinate the validation process throughout the project to help ensure compliance and minimise programme delays. This includes arranging site inspections at key construction stages, addressing any observations identified during the inspection process and providing the necessary documentation to support project completion.
Upon successful completion of the works, a comprehensive validation report can be provided by the independent validator, offering documented evidence that the gas protection measures have been installed in accordance with the approved design and relevant guidance. This report is often required by regulators, warranty providers and building control bodies before practical completion.
By incorporating independent validation into the installation process, clients gain assurance that the gas protection system has been installed correctly, reducing risk and providing confidence that the required level of ground gas protection has been achieved.
This collaborative approach helps ensure a smooth approval process while demonstrating that the installed gas protection measures meet the performance requirements of the development.
